If a mac has internal speakers will a Bose Companion 3 series speaker system work with the mac?

Absolutely! It has an audio port, just like any windows machine. If there's nothing plugged into it, then the mac will use the built in crummy speakers (actually they're sort of OK but they're crap as compared to the Bose stuff!) if you plug in your speakers, doesn't matter what kind, it will push out sound through the good speakers.

You can't change the ohm load of a speaker. What you can do, is get a second 8 ohm speaker to run with that speakers in series and you will get a total ohm load of 16 ohms.To run them in series, simply wire the positive terminal of one speaker to the negative of the other speaker.
