2/3 majority vote from both houses (House of Representatives and Senate).

If a US president vetoes a bill sent to him by the US Congress, the president may choose to veto the bill. In such a case, the bill is sent back to the congress. If the Congress can come up with a two thirds majority, then the bill must pass as law.
In Article II, Section 3 of the Constitution it states the presidents must from time to time address Congress and the nation about current conditions. He must also make suggestions to Congress, then judge the plans when needed.
The senate must approve any appointment to the Supreme Court. Without their consent, the apointee would not become a member.
Before a president's budget can be put into action, it must go through a series of steps. First, the president submits the budget proposal to Congress. Then, Congress reviews and analyzes the budget, making changes and adjustments as needed. After the budget is finalized and approved by both chambers of Congress, it is signed into law by the president. Only then can the budget be implemented and funds allocated accordingly.

In the event, the president picks a new vice president who then must be approved by both houses of Congress before he can take office.

The presidents "role: has evolved/changed over the last century plus in this country. Traditionally the president should enforce the constitution and safeguard American liberties and freedoms. However presidents in the last century have sought to take a more active role in government than our founding fathers ever intended., but it should be noted that congress has been complicit in this "evolution" of the Imperialist American Presidency> It goes across party lines it is not a right or left issue but an American issue that must be remedied by strong leadership of our Congress.
