It is the selonoid unforutnately it is built into the starter......so you probably have to purchase a new starter....about 170.00
Seized engine? Loose or cooroded battery terminal Bad starter solenoid? Bad neutral or clutch safety switch?
you can try to short the starter motor . take a screw driver and bridge ffrom battery cable on starter to ignition wire on starter. if starter is good, engine will crank. if starter is bad , solenoid will click if no clicking, solenoid is bad
Loose battery cable? Bad starter? ( checkwires on starter) Bad starter solenoid? Bad Neutral or clutch safety switch?
well i dont know exactly where the starter is but you should be able to see it under the car around where the tranny bellhousing meets the engine at the fly wheel(auto) or flex plate(manual) either on the left or right side. if the car is not turning over at all then you can put a jumper from the battery to the starter solenoid and that should kick the starter on if it doesnt then you starter/solenoid is bad. but if you car turns over but doesnt start then your starter is fine.
It may well be. But it may also be that the battery is too low for the starter (the starter requires much power), but that there is enough power for car accessories. Two things can be done to find out: 1. Listen to the starter with the hood open while turning the key. If the solenoid is ok, you should hear a definitve "click" 2. Check the battery poles and charge the battery, if it still doesnt start then it probably is the solenoid that's the problem.
No noise when you try to start the vehicle usually indicates a dead battery, or a loose or disconnected cable/wire at the starter, solenoid (starter relay switch), or ignition switch.
Not to bash on the last answer, but, the starter solenoid probably isn't at fault here. If it will start with the screwdriver then the starter solenoid is functioning. It either does or it doesnt. The answer lies in circuitry back from the solenoid to the ignition switch. You could have a bad ignition switch or neutral/safety switch.AnswerDefective starter solenoid.
"Dead" Starter CircuitsI'm not familiar with your vehicle, but...I suspect that the problem is an "open circuit" conditionin the circuit between your ignition switch and the starter solenoid, or possibly the starter solenoid itself.Something that is supposed to be in contact is disconnected, or possibly the contacts inside the ignition switch have failed and won't make contact.
usually you can tell when your car doesnt turn or or doesnt turn over its because of your starter sometimes its not the starter it could be a low battery or corroded wires leading to the starter check that first;
sounds like starter trouble could be the solenoid or the sprag clutch(bendix)
Most often it is the starter and not the ignition.
probably a bad starter. If it was a clutch safety problem it would not allow you to try and start your car. If your battery is good (and just because it reads 12.24 volts doesnt mean its good, it has to have the right output of amps also) then check your battery terminals and power and ground cables for good connections. If those are good then Id figure that loud clicking was your starter solenoid trying to engage the starter. If you have an external starter solenoid then you can try changing it out. If it is built into the starter then you need to look into a new starter. If you take your starter off you can take it down to a local auto parts store and get it tested before you go buy a brand new one. you can also get your battery tested at most auto parts stores.
