- The Ancient Egyptian civilization is usually credited with establishing the division of the night into 12 parts, although there were many variations over the centuries. see link Wikipedia; Hour
- If you look into Biblical texts, you will find that hours were broken up into 1080 parts (we now divide our hours into 3600 seconds)
corresponding to these barleycorns. The relationship of 1 finger = 6
barleycorns is well known in Arabic, Syriac, and Sanskrit astronomy.
- The way in which we divide the day into hours and minutes, as well as the structure and length of the yearly calendar, owes much to pioneering developments in ancient Egypt. see link "Ancient Egypt: The Father Of Time " on left
- Or maybe you are refering to the Before Christ/Anno Domini (BC/AD) dating?
The
Anno Domini system was developed by a monk named Dionysius Exiguus (born in Scythia Minor) in Rome in 525, as an outcome of his work on calculating the date of Easter. take note on the date "525 AD." see link Wikipedia: AnnoDomini on left. BTW: only Christians today still uses the BC/AD dating. What is now being used is the Before Common Era (BCE) and Common Era (CE), which corresponds to the then popular BC/AD....
Your pretense is wrong. In many ways. If what you want to consider as proof to all is actually inaccurate, shouldn't it follow that he isn't real? Bet you'll
then think the idea and support YOU gave itself was meaningless and it actually makes no difference. Convenient. It's OK to be wrong, but certainly, if someone was teaching me inaccurate things to prove beliefs, instead of dismissing their inaccuracies when it's convenient, I'd need to to question all the other things they say much more seriously.
You as a Christian may use one calendar, but certainly not everybody does. There are many, many different time systems, and virtually each religion, even civilization has one. It just depends on the audience. For example see the link: http://www.jewfaq.org/calendar.htm which is the system used by the Jews (and a few others) still today. (Presumably Jesus would have used this too). Certainly in
Asia (ever been to a Chinese New Years celebration -- closes down much of that portion of the world and much of many, many cities here in the US?) and African areas where they maintain their own cultures, their own historic calendars are used. As would make sense before clocks and such, days ended/started at sundown..the concept of midnite not being known.
Even today time keeping constantly changes….again, an audience of scientists uses a different method of calculating time then the one you refer to, as it is not accurate enough for their needs.
But most to the point…I suspect the one you refer to is in no way tied to
Christianity. It is from the pre-Christian Romans…which is why the
names of months are taken from Roman Gods, not Christian prodigals...and it uses the moon/sun as points, not making the days of importance related to Christ fall as special markers (like New Years)!
But, if it justifies your faith….I guess…..force it to be any way you want.
