If someone is about to kill a friend and you are present and kill the person before they kill your friend do you go to jail to try to save your friend when you know he didnt do anything to get killed?

If you intervene in the event to save your friend's life and the result is that you kill your friend's attacker, you would undoubtedly initially be charged by law enforcement. It is possible that there may be enough evidence and witnesses for law enforcement to clear you with little effort, but the greater likliehood is that you will wind up going before a Grand Jury and probably, eventually, to court, The charges may be Manslaughter, instead of Homicide but it may take a full-blown trial to determine what the events actually were.
