A possible fault in the system can lead to any of the following:
(a) The light does not come on when you turn the ignition ON.
(b) The light stays on after the engine starts.
(c) The light comes on while you are driving.
Apart from the conventional causes of these faults (faulty airbag system), majority of the light indicator problem has been attributed to ignorance while fixing or repairing mechanical and/or wiring systems on within the vehicle.
If the SRS indicator light alerts you to a problem, have the supplemental restraint system inspected as soon as possible. If you ignore this indication, the airbags might not inflate when you need them.
Likely Causes and Precautions:
- Do not modify your steering wheel or any other part of the supplemental restraint system. Modifications could make the system ineffective.
- Do not tamper with the system's components or wiring. This could cause the airbags to inflate inadvertently, possibly injuring someone very seriously.
- Tell anyone who works on your vehicle that you have a supplemental restraint system. Failure to follow the procedures and precautions in the official service manual could result in personal injury or damage to the system.
