the light comes on when the alternator is bad or your regulator has gone bad. some regulators are built into the computer.
Have recently just had mine done on a 52 vectra at 65,000 but l think this was a little late vauxhall recommend 40,000 but you have to renew all tensioners and waterpump, comes as a kit, costs me £200 to have this done at my local garage.
Because most if not all vauxhall engines are air cooled, hence when you are driving the temp comes down
hi ,,, had th esame problem and had the alternator changed and this solved the problem ,,,,
i have three dashboard lights on in my vauxhall vectra showing a engine light a spanner and a skid light its also driving slow
it m eans that either a bulb has blown or there is a fault on the lighting circuit
Hi. I recently had a problem similar to this on my Vectra, where all my display dropped to zero and the battery light glowed very brightly. I took it to a garage and they diagnosed a faulty alternator, Which wasn't cheap but I've not had any problems since.' *I have had just these same symptoms come on suddenly while driving an astra, mine turned out to be the battery failing with an internal short circuit. When I switched off it was all dead.If the vectra can start up and run after experiencing the loss of amps ,then the alternator is the most likely.
The vehicle's computer has sensed a malfunction that may not directly affect the driveability of the car (yet), Have the computer scanned for trouble codes to determine where/what the fault is.
it usuallt comes on when the engine management system has pick up a fault, to investigate why it has come on you need to get it put on some suitable diagnostic equipment most loca garages have this now.
That new alternator may be at fault. Have the charging system tested at your local auto parts store.
My Vectra did this a few times. It was diagnosed as a fault caused by the ABS unit. A main dealer tried various mods then changed the whole module. That cured it. I don't what it cost as it was under warranty.
alternator, or a wire to alternator loose
The Opel Vectra is a car that was produced from 1988 to 2009. "Vectra" may be meaningless, having been chosen purely to sound good, as many car names are. However, some have theorized that "Vectra" comes from a form of "vehere", the Latin word for "travel" or "transport".
