Just by looking at the vin number won't tell you the year of your bike. You need to write the vin number down and get on the phone with a dealer that operates your type of motorcycle manufacture. Tell them the vin number and then they can tell you what year it is. The 10th digit is the year of manufacture. f is 85, g is 86, h is 87 etc. So yours is an 87. It should have the 6 speed tranny as well.

Not sure if your model is the 1500 or 2500………this is from a 1500………..also…..you need to look at the 8th digit of your VIN. VIN letters V, T, U and G are all located on the top rear of the engine………..the only one I have a pic for is the VIN G, 8.1L………. This may assist you in locating yours……………
