If there is a ticking in the top side of the motor of a 1990 Honda Civic LX do the valves need to be adjusted?

they don't really do valve adjustments on modern cars (yes, '90 is considered modern)
my '96 has valve tick, it's probably just crud in the motor and might not matter much. if it's pretty loud get it checked though, the engine could be warped
