Try shifting from Park to Neutral to Park and if the car starts, you have aproblem with thepark/neutral safety switch. It may be failing or just need adjusting. This is a part found on all cars with automatic transmissions. It prevents the starter from engaging if the transmission is in any gear other than 'Park' or 'Neutral'. It also turns on the back-up lights when the transmission is shifted into "reverse". It can get out of adjustment or fail.
could be a worn starter ring gear, most likely.
there is no fuse for the headlights. Could be many reasons. Start with the fusible links down by the starter.
If it isn't turning over then it may be a problem with your starter motor. If it is turning over but not starting then it could be a range of things. Fuel pump would be one thing to check. If you turn on headlights and they are very dim then it could be that your battery is very flat (but enough charge to still run the dash lights as they are a much lower power rating then headlights etc)
The starter could be bad. Or the battery. The starter could be bad. Or the battery.
Battery cables could be loose, battery could be bad, starter could be bad, starter solenoid could be bad, ignition switch could be bad. Turn on the headlights and try to crank the engine. If the headlights dim or go out look at the cables or battery. If they stay bright look at starter, solenoid or ignition switch. The neutral safety switch or clutch petal switch could do it too.
It seems that there could be a problem with your starter. It happened to me too.
There are many different reasons why the Nissan Altima won't start. It could have a dead battery, a bad starter or even the engine. It is best to take it to a mechanic for them to diagnose the problem.
Your starter could be shot
The speedometer reaches 160 mph but turning off the sensor could increase speed
Do you have any click in the starter itself but still not turning over? Then its the starter giving you fits. Replace it. If no click is heard then it could be a fuse or more likely the starter relay. Check them both before moving to the starter.
Bad starter, or dead battery. :) Or you could have a bad wiring connection. Oh yes, and your starter switch (where you put your key) could be going bad.
