It can definitely go both ways.
First off, if you guys are always saying the same thing and you have an overwhelming number of things in common, you have a good foundation. But this can just lead to really, really good friends.
Don't just rely on things you guys have in common because people are constantly changing. If your personalities blend well and you get along, you don't necessarily need to be the same person to be a good match.
