If you weigh below a hundred pounds, you probably won't get it yet. Weight and your cycle are linked; that's why anorexics who lose a lot of weight stop menstruating.
If you mother didn't get it until she was older, you probably won't get it yet either. A certain amount of it is to do with genetics.
Other than that, it varies from person to person. The only physical signs that it's imminent are discharge, spotting and mild stomach-ache and some people don't even show those signs. There aren't really any hard and fast rules.
Answerbefore i got my first period, i had a migraine for a week and had to take the week of school, but i had started getting discharge a few months before hand.
Answerim getting mine soon, i can tell bcuz ive had sum cramps, discharge, moodswings, and randum cravings, and sumtimes i even randumly start crying lol
