Dump all of the fuel out of the tank. Then take a pair of long needle nose pliers and grab the end f the fuel line. Inspect it for swelling or complete disentegration. The ethanol added to gas that is now mandatory in many states is very tough on fuel line. You may have to replace the fuel line and put a new fuel filter on while you're at it. Patience is a virtue.

Might be the fuel filter? Fish around in the tank and see if you can retrieve a tube that will connect to it.

The process will vary between models. The lines should be fit into the tank tightly, with no gaskets. There may be an internal filter in the tank, it plugs on the end of the suction line. The other ends of the lines slide tightly onto the carburetor fittings.

Fram PH8170. Craftsman 7133935 is the replacement filter for B&S 696854. Bosch 0986452058 and Hastings LF503 also fit. They're all a boatload cheaper than the Craftsman.
drain the fuel, remove the fuel filter from inside the tank, remove the old fuel line from the filter, remove the old fuel line from the carb, pull old fuel line out, install new fuel line through the tank, reconnect fuel filter to new fuel line, place filter and slack line into tank, connect new fuel line to carb, refill tank, check for leaks.
I just changed the oil and I couldn't find a filter on it.
