Strength training burns more calories than cardio does because muscle uses more calories not only to sustain but to use. Also strength training continues to burn calories even after you get done working out because your body is working to recover the muscle groups that have been worked. As long as your not eating more calories than your burning you wont get big and bulky and you'll get tone too. Also you'll have more energy from the blood flow and your metabolism will get faster.
