The cars emission requirements are based on the vehicle year/ make/model and the engine that came with the vehicle. If you were to put a hayabusa engine in a car, it may or may not pass the emissions and may not be required since the engine was changed to something so exotic. If it does have to be tested and fails, I'm sure that it can be waivered.
If your engine is burning oil there is a good chance it won't pass a smog test. You should get it to a mechanic immediately as it's not only a danger to the environment, but possibly could be a danger to you.
It depends on where you live. In California you will not
No, it will not pass the smog test with a defective or removed O2 sensor.
Need to specify the problem, anything that trips the engine light will cause it to fail, which could be a thousand different things to fix so it will pass
the opdomiter does not work, will it pass smog? opdomiter, not sure what that is. Please define.
Smog check failure and new engine in California under the newly adopted smog regulations. Only in California. No car will pass. Predict collapse of the auto industry.
It can, if the cars computers have not had enough time to do all of their self diagnostics it will fail smog. They don't want you resetting the light on your way to the test.
Get it fixed.
Yes that used car should pass smog inspection.
Trouble code P1258 means: Engine Metal Over Temperature Protection
In almost all cases smog is required according to the year of the vehicle...not the engine. If it were the other way around you could simply drop in a 1967 engine and do away with smog altogether. If you are making a drastic change....say dropping in a 1992 TPI 350, then yes, to make it work correctly you'd need to change over most of the smog equipment to the 92 engine. In your case....a 79 to 82, it should be fairly close and an easy conversion. ***************************************************************** Calif CARB law states a car with a used engine must be the same year or newer engine to pass smog criteria
Yes you do, unless you dont wanna pass smog, also your check engine light will come on without it.
