Answer
I am a type 1 and my advice would be not to completely focus on the "exact" amount but instead to knock out all refined carbohydrates and NO! sugar free is NOT always best! many sugar substitutes can adversely effect blood sugar also. Focus on eliminating foods that are made with high levels of refined sugar and carbohydrates that will directly effect your blood sugar level such as doughnuts, cookies cakes white bread potatoes and rice and chips, soda .Do your research! these foods are fast absorbing in the system and cannot be processed correctly if you are having blood sugar problems. You can replace these foods with foods that are called "slowly digestible carbs" such as beans, peas. and certain grains PLEASE research these foods and make them a part of your daily meal plan instead.Stay away from all things with refined white sugar in them, these can also be replaced with foods that are sweetened with" fruit juices" instead. Sugar from natural fruit is digested at a slower rate then white refined sugar white sugar foods are also high in carbohydrates and will raise you blood sugar. There is a strong link between "Celiac disease" (an allergy to wheat and gluten) and Diabetes. There are many supermarkets that now have "Gluten free" sections that provide a variety of healthy choices.I believe if you are serious about your health, you will make the necessary changes.Take it from me, a type 1, you don't want this horrific disease...... your future health is in your hands so do what ever you can now for a healthy future.............
