If it is stuck on completely so that the engine will not shut off, it is either the key switch or the ignition itself. Depending on the make of car, the electrical part of the switch is either on the key part or lower down on the column and activated with a rod. If the key will not turn all the way back so that you can remove the key, the transmission may not be completely in park. Hold pressure on the shifter and try turning the key.
how to remove key stuck in ignition switch in Chevy colbalt
Replace your ignition lock assembly.
the tumblers have gotten out of sync, you'll probably have to have a new ignition switch put in
Depends on make, model, and year.
The tumblers in the key cylinder have most likely become stuck in the wrong position and you will have to replace the ignition key cylinder.
You can't, you have to replace the ignition switch
Wiggle the key as you turn the key while in the ignition switch. My 1994 gets stuck about once a month.
Probably a stuck solenoid.
sounds like you have connected the wires wrong on starter. if that is not the problem then you have a short either in ignitin switch or in the solenoid
In my case it was the ignition switch itself had overheated and seized up. Replace the switch (have to lower the column, disconnect the wiring plug from the switch, and remove/replace the switch.) Clean all connections to the switch, make sure they're connected solidly and not heating up again.
You mean, I think, ignition switch module, which is the location of the ignition switch.
Remove the ignition switch retaining ring. Pull the ignition switch out. Remove the wiring harness from the back of the ignition switch. Reverse the process to install the new ignition switch.
