Theoretically yes, due to the fact that the legal age of majority for the state is 18 and the age for compulsory education is 16. It would however not be a prudent choice, as the court could order the parents to pay the "adult student's" expenses until he or she graduated from high school.

No. Parents are legally and financially responsible for their minor children until they reach the legal age of majority or a court rules otherwise. The legal age of majority for the state of Texas is 18.

Parental ObligationsParents are, in most instances legally and financially responsible for their minor children until a court rules otherwise.

Parents cannot legally force a 16-year-old to leave home without having made acceptable living and financial support arrangements for the minor in advance.

Parents can allow the minor to leave with a family member or qualified adult but they must also give the adult caregiver a written statement with all pertinent terms included, permission for the minor to be enrolled in school, receive medical care, terms of the financial support that will be rendered by the parents and so forth. Be advised, transferring custody of a minor child in such a way is only legal on a temporary basis, 3 months or less. All other custodial issues must be addressed through the required legal procedure of the state in which the minor resides.

Parents who take it upon themselves to "kick" a minor child out of the family home rather than seek assistance from state social services could be charged with child abandonment, non support of a minor child, endangering the welfare of a child , contributing to the delinquency and truancy of a minor, and several other criminal violations some of which constitute a felony.

AnswerCan they legally, yes with proper proof of an unmanagable child. Which means the courts are already aware of problems. IF there is nothing noted it could be child abandonment, that would have to be proven too, by the child or another adult. Should they is the question. Its difficult for parents who want to discipline a child these days because of our society ills. Your damned if you do damned if you dont. Anyway, I know its easier said then done but there is help out there and I dont know if your the child or the parent, reach out even further than you have perhaps, and you may find a solution. It will affect all of you for the rest of your lives.

No, a 16 year old can not live alone without a parent in Georgia unless they are emancipated. If the 16 year old is married, they can also live without the parent.
