You cannot decide. You can have the other parent request a change of custody, though. You will probably have to go in front of the judge to express your opinion on the change of custody once it reaches courts.

In Georgia, minors who are 14 years or older can express their preference for which parent to live with, but the final decision is left to the court. If you are less than a month away from turning 17, it is possible your preference may still be considered by the court depending on the circumstances of the case. It's important to consult with a lawyer for specific legal advice in your situation.

When can a child decide which parent to live with in the state of South Dakota?

In South Dakota, a child's preference may be considered by a judge in custody matters, but it is not the sole factor. The judge will consider the child's best interests, which include factors such as the child's relationship with each parent, each parent's ability to care for the child, and the child's safety and well-being. Ultimately, the court will make a decision based on what it deems to be in the child's best interests.
