In a 2001 Chevy Venture the emergency lights come on when you step on the brake?

There is a short in the tail lights that is causing the current to travel back through the turn signals making it appear the hazad lights are on. Remove the tail light; 2 screws that need a star bit or the rights size screw driver. Unplug and examine the connection and you'll see corrosion or burn marks. It will be the connector for the black wire that is burnt. Sand down the contact on the light and replace or repair the connector that's probably melted.

I had this same problem with my 2003 Venture. The Cheverolet dealership told me that the cruise contol is directly linked to the brake lights. The simplest and cheapest place to start would be to check your brake lights...if they are not working, you will not have cruise control.
