A lot.
Seriously. The fossil record of New York state is composed of sediments deposited during the early Paleozoic (the Ordovician, Silurian, and Devonian periods). Pretty much any early Paleozoic metazoan you can think of is likely found in New York.
New York is well known for the Niagara Formation, an Silurian-aged formation that represents the remains of an ancient reef system. Eminent paleontologist James P. Hall wrote extensively on his discoveries within the Niagara Formation, which include brachiopods, bivalves, crinoids, sponges, corals, trilobites, cephalopods, gatropods, bryozoans, and the New York state fossil, the eurypterid. Eurypterids are large, scorpion-like predators that were top of the food chain during the Silurian Period.
The Devonian saw the evolution of the first bony fishes. These early fish were very different from the fish we know today: they were covered in heavy plates of "armor" for defense from predators.
New York also has some fossils recovered from the last Ice Age, primarily freshwater mollusks, and some plant remains.
At the time of most dinosaurs the continents were connected and it was called Pangea, as the Tectonic Plates shifted the continents drifted apart.

Alligators and Crocodiles lived in prehistoric times, however are not considered proper dinosaurs. Most prehistoric creatures were made extinct many years ago.
Fossils of Procamelus and Protolabis in the northeast, and Stenomylus in the northwest have been found in Nebraska.
During the time of prehistoric animals, most notably dinosaurs, California was home to many different species. These included the Smilodon, or the saber-toothed tiger, the Californiasaurus, and the Nodosaurus.
..During that time, some scientists believe Ohio was at least partially underwater, because many Trilobites were found there. Some also believe that erosin destroyed most of the remains. Edmontonia remains have been found though, and those are pretty sweet.
It was a remarkable project, and the book instantly became a valuable contribution to paleontology. The scientific study of fossils is known as paleontology.
