In the US numerous native tribes lived across the entire continent. In what is called the Plateau area (Canadian border, Rocky Mountains and to the southwest) were the Paiute, Nez Percé, Spokane and the Shoshone. In the west and south west there were Hopi, Navajo, Ute, and before them Freemont and Anasazi. In the eastern seacoast area were the Natchez, Choctaw, Cherokee, and the Creek. There is a famous case, 'Cherokee Nation vs. Georgia'. The Sioux were one of the Plains Indian tribes. Along the Northwest coast area were the Wakiutl, the Haida, the Tsimshian, and the Nootka. In Arctic areas like Alaska one finds the Eskimo tribes. There have been numerous tribes depending on the time period, some have been omitted.
