A 1/3 were for the war. A1/3 were loyal to the king and a 1/3 were neutral. Some people today would like to think that everyone in the colonies picked up a gun and went to war. Not true and at the end of the war 53,000 loyalist left the colonies for Canada or other places. As with most things everyone had an opinion.

too many misconceptions here. 1. America is a continent, not a nation. 2. If you mean the United States of America, it didn't exist until after the revolution. 3. Therefore the answer is 'Never'. A revolution is vastly different from an ordinary war. There can be no declaration, because there is no separate state to make the declaration; only groups of citizens who rebel against the authority of their existing government.
The American Revolution nor the US Civil War ended slavery in the United States. The 13th Amendment to the US Constitution ended slavery. The 13th Amendment was approved and passed by both Houses in February 1865, and ratified by 3/4 of the US States, in December 1865.

The English Civil War and the French revolution were similar in that they both involved regicide and a short-lived dictatorship. The dictators were Cromwell and Robespierre, respectively.
