First disconnect the negative battery terminal, then set wheels straight and steering wheel level. First pop off all the shroud, casing , unscrew turning lever and remove shifter. Mine has a pin so I used a punch while holding the shifter so not to break it.mark reference marks even though this one won't be back in,you can at least have something to go by. (They can be installed up to 180% off!)
Now we can dissect this and get to business, pop horn pad and disconnect,if you are not used to this kinda work you might want to label what connectors go where.next undo nut and reveal the washer from hell, you'll need a steering wheel puller there about $15, let it do its thing and next you'll see a computer board, undo retaining screws and find the wires feeding it about a foot down, as you pull on the computer board push some slack so not to rip any wire off ,now remove the ignition cylinder, undo plastic plate on back of shroud with ground attached.now for this i removed my bench seat so i could work comfortably but to each his own,get down so you can see the three allen screws holding the housing in and remove.leave 2 slightly tightened and and go about 1 foot down to the underside if the column and loosen seat, mine had 4 7/8 bolts. once this is done unplug the wire connection and push thru to computer panel, set aside and now with ease remove shroud.
Go down to your firewall and locate the 4 bolts around the steering column. Remove and remember to keep all hardware til you are done.you'll have to loosen bolts possibly on both sides of the firewall, can't remember to be honest! Once it's disconnected you can disconnect linkage, now go back to those allen screws and when done finish removing steel seat. Your column will slide right out. Reverse all this to put new one back.
