Absolutely not!
These prisoners were primarily from England, but a good proportion were Irish political rebels.
Yes they were. In olden times, the practice of "transportation" was used to send convicts to the British colonies, usually Australia. This is "transportation" as opposed to "Transport", which means ways of getting from one place to another.
Australia was originally set up as a penal colony where Britain sent prisoners.
Britain was the first to claim Australia, although the Dutch, Portuguese and French had explored parts of the continent's coast. Australia was first used as a penal colony for England's excess prisoners.
The Auschwitz group of camps were the only ones that used tattoos. Tattoos were not used at other camps, though obviously prisoners transferred from Auschwitz to Buchenwald or Bergen-Belsen still had their tattoos. (Note that prisoners who were sent to the gas chambers immediately on arrival at Auschwitz were not tattoed).
Australia was colonised by British prisoners. The British government sent a fleet of convicts and officers, under the command of Captain Arthur Phillip, to colonise the land that James Cook had named and claimed as "New South Wales".
When the English first colonised Australia, they used it as a place to send their excess prisoners: in other words, Australia was originally established as a penal colony for British convicts. When the North American colonies refused to accept any more prisoners, the great continent in the southern hemisphere had considerable appeal as a prison from which convicts were unlikely to return. There were also many resources in Australia which the British hoped to utilise, as well as the continent being in a prime strategic position for defensive purposes in the South Pacific.
It depends on how "mail" is defined. Doves are still used to send messages.
Yes. They can even send you used ones as well. You will still be able to use them.
Prisoners were used as sacrifices to their gods; the prisoners would be taken to the Aztec temple and murdered.
One used to be able to send a graduation announcement to the US President. It is unclear as to weather or not now the same thing still happens as it used to. It used to be that one would send an announcement and the president would send a congratulatory letter back.
The Nazis used post cards from the concentration prisoners to find more Jews. __ Most of the postcards would not have been sent to any Jews in hiding. This would have been foolish. Most of the postcards, that were sent to Jews, were sent to addresses in Ghettos. Some postcards were supplied to the concentration camp prisoners to use to acknowledging the receipt of red cross parcels. Others had a more sinister purpose. Some prisoners had to send them to relatives still in the ghetos, what was written on them dictated by the SS. They basically said I am fine, I've arrived fine and then the writers were sent for extermination. It is thought they were done to try and hide the genocide from the general population. Sometimes the postcards were just that. Quick notes sent to people outside the camp to let them know they were still alive.
