The two Churches share a history until about the sixteenth century. "Lutheranism" came to identify the faction that sided with Martin Luther, the Catholic priest who sparked the protestant reformation. His intent was not to start a separate church, but to facilitate reform within the Church. The two factions proved irreconcilable and became distinct. Both Churches continue traditions and beliefs passed down from the early church founded by the earliest Christians. Cultural and doctrinal differences have also developed in both Churches since their division.

The Christian religion began as a sect of Judaism and eventually evolved into a separate religion accepting converts from the non-Jewish population of the Roman Empire.

Christianity existed in several different forms, most of which fell away leaving the Roman-based Roman Catholics and the Greece-based Christian Orthodox, as well as the Christians in Ethiopia. Eventually the Catholics in particular split into a variety of Protestant religions as well as the modern Catholic Church.

Technically, Catholicism is just Judaism fulfilled. In other words, those Jews who accepted the Messiah became the Catholic Church as founded by Our Blessed Savior on St. Peter (see St. Matthew 16:17-19); so the short answer is yes, the longer answer is that they are basically the same religion; although I'm sure that modern day Jews would disagree as would some Catholics.

Yes. However, paganism is not one religion, but rather a term that describes a wide variety of largely unrelated religions, some of which pre-date Christianity.
