∙ 7y agoCulturally and politically it is part of Europe as it is in the European Union and it has a majority-European population.
However it is less clear where Cyprus fits geographically. Cyprus is on three continental plates. The Greek island is on the African plate, the Arabian plate, and on the Euroasia plate therefore it is geographically part of three continents including Europe. The United Nations considers Cyprus to be a Southwest Asian country because of its position south of Anatolia. Many Cypriots consider their country to be geographically European and simply the Greek island furthest east.

∙ 11y agoThe Republic of Cyprus has been a member of the EU since 2006; however, the breakaway Northern Turkish section is not recognised by any nation other than Turkey itself, so is not a part of the European Union.
