I got my mirena in on sept 22 and now it's october 19th, less than a month. I've scheduled an appointment to have the mirena removed. I've heard of great reviews and horrifying reviews. Great: you don't have to do anything about it since it's inside of you for five years and is effective for that long, you just have to check monthly for the string to make sure that it still is in there properly and not embedded somewhere in your uterine or any other organs.

Horrifying review was a friend of my coworker had to undergo surgery to get it removed because it went through the uterine wall (which it's not suppose to, but happens in statistically speaking roughly 1 per 1000 cases).

My own experience is that the mirena string poked my vaginal area, yes, it hurted. I wanted to make sure that that was the case so i felt with my finger what that burning feeling that was down there and sure enough it was the string. I read that i could have the string trim down, but if it gets too short, it will be extremely difficult to have it removed and may even require surgery to have it removed.

My worst fear is having mirena penetrate my uterine wall and embed itself somewhere else in my body where it doesn't belong, that's why I'm choosing to switch over to Depo. I was reassured that it's very unlikely for a mirena to penetrate the uterine and get stuck elsewhere. however, the way i see it, is although it's very very unlikely, there's always the possibility. and right now, I'm very scared until i can actually have it removed. I shouldve done my in depth research before having the mirena in. instead, all i did was read the pamphlet that talks about all of the benefits about the mirena and minor disadvantages of having it, i don't remember it mentioning the perforation part which is about the risk of having the mirena penetrate through your uterine wall.

As for anyone who's skeptical about my opinion regarding the mirena regarding perforation really does rarely ever happens why won't the manufacturer guarantee on it something like they will pay for your surgery if perforation does happen to you? Women are willing to take the risk to have the mirena put in yet the manufacturer will not take the chance to risk granting such guarantee.
