It is true that most of Arabs, before Islam era, were henotheists. This religious doctrine is described in Quran by the Arabic term "Shirk" (i.e. "sharing"); Quran describes them as mushrikin (i.e. those who believe in God, but "share" other gods in divinity). Those pre-Islamic Arabs believed in a supreme god, and the word they used for him is also Allah, the same Arabic name used in Islam. However, they did believe in lesser gods too.
The monotheism of Islam religion is unquestionable and is a basic and most fundamental pillar of faith in Islam. It is emphasized in many verses of Quran that Shirk or henotheism is considered by God (Allah) as the biggest sin. Quran stresses in many verses that God can forgive anything except shirk or henotheism.

Islam
Answer from IslamOrthodox Christianity is not a Monotheistic branch of Christianity. Islam is a Pure Monotheistic Religion. The bulk of Christians accept Trinity which tells us that 3 is 1. But the Orthodox is more developed one. Since it is not Pure Monotheistic, then it cannot be compared with Islam. When Orthodox Christians go to church they do not pray to God, but to the spiritless and lifeless icons of the saints being hanged on the walls of the church. It is their ritual to kiss them and to seek prosperity and good life from them. This is a shirk (polytheistic belief) according to Islam. This religion is not pure Christianity. It has been influenced by the Polytheistic beliefs of the ancient Greeks.
Muslims give more respect to other monotheistic faiths than they give to polytheistic faiths.
