That depends, Yorkie terriers are very fragile, energetic, needy dogs. If the girl is dependable and responsible, and likes small dogs, this might be the right dog for her! These dogs can also be selective in companionship, zappy and sometimes a plan old pest. Otherwise, they are delightful dogs!

Hm. This is a very variable question. The girl should be responsible, gentle, and the two should be under good supervision. A Yorkshire is a very fragile animal that could easily be injured by an overexcited child. Young children and delicate animals are not always a good combination. A larger, sturdier dog may be a better decision. Also, a problem arises with young children that irritated, over bothered Yorkies may occasionally be guilty of biting a child. This is a Yorkies natural instinct and some children just don't know when to stop. The child should be fully educated about the dangers of mishandling her pet and perhaps given books (appropriate for her age level) to read about the breed before being given the dog; a surprise would not be a good idea. Giving her the dog, then educating her might be a literally fatal mistake. So but if she knows not to hurt it in any way, and the dog is trained not to bite to much, i think it would be all right

No. Even though the pomeranian is usually an alert, spunky and socialble pet, I would never, even recommend one for a child. There is usually a long, tiring search to avoid all the noisy, neurotic pomeranians to find a pomeranian that is calm and attentive. Usually the result of imbreeding to create the breed itself. Due to being a toy, it is an extemely fragile breed of dog, and needs lots of matinence, lots of shedding, and, sadly, it does NOT housebreak properly. It needs regular brushing, combing and baths. Too many people aquire a toy puppy without realizing how fragile they actually are. They can easily injure or kill themselves by simply jumping from your arms or the back of the couch. You can easily injure or kill a pomeranian simply by stepping or sitting on it. A bigger dog can snap it's neck with one good shake. It must be kept inside at all times unless on a lead, in a fenced area, or under your supervision, they are simply too easy to injure. They are standoffish by nature and need extensive exposure while young to unusual sights and sounds. They are quick to sound the alarm, and the owner must be equally as quick to stop it. Many Poms do not tolerate any nonsense. They can be easily alarmed and overwhelmed by the loud noises and quick movements that young children often make without realizing it. This often leads to stress, shyness and defensive biting. Sourses: Helping my girlfriend raise HER pom. The thing barked 24/7.
