No. It is, however, a reciprocating 4 cylinder, water-cooled 4-cycle (Otto cycle - spark ignition) piston motor. From the 1980's, the Mazda rotary (nee Wankel) engine has only been available in the RX- series (RX : Rotary Experimental). There currently exists a JDM rotary engine hybrid Mazda5 model, leased in very small numbers for research purposes.
