Yes that is a must. The d-tent cable is what controls the transmission line pressure and makes the transmission kick down into passing gear. If it's not hooked up correctly the trans. will shift funny and the fluid pressure will be incorrect and burn the clutches up in the transmission. MUST BE HOOKED UP. and adjusted correctly.

That wire is for kick down gear or passing gear.
Kick down on a Turbo 400 is a little single wire electric solenoid right behind the valve body inside the transmission. The switch to engage it is either mounted on the carburetor/fuel injection throttle linkage or mounted under the dash next to/above the gas pedal.

That wire is your kick down connection. It should be connected to a switch either on the carb or the gas peddle linkage. Applying 12 volts to that wire will activate the kick down mode.
