I believe a passive alarm will just activate a horn or very loud sound device after the initial trigger is activated, like opening a door, hood or trunk lid. And that is that. You need to get a pricier alarm to activate door locks, etc. Hope this helps.

How do you turn off the alarm on a 1997 Jetta and can you deactivate the alarm system?

Read your owner's manual. This information can be found there.AnswerYou turn off the alarm on a 1997 Jetta by unlocking any of the 2 front doors. The alarm is temporary disabled when opening the trunk. If you set off the alarm because you replace the battery then you have to lock and unlock the doors to turn it off. First, lock all doors, including the trunk. Then reconnect the battery cables. Finally, unlock the doors. Instead of unlocking one of the front doors, you can also disable the alarm. This can be done by, after locking your car - which automatically arms the alarm, wait a few seconds and then turn the key the other direction for about half a second. This disables the alarm, yet leaves the door locked.

Why do the doors of a 2000 Kia Sportage lock by themselves?

This is part of the security sytem of the kia. Its connnected to the alarm system. If you wish to prevent this you can disconnect the automatic locks or just pull the fuse from the alarm box. Hence you will also disable the alarm. When the car is started it senses the electrical difference and assumes that you are in the car. Then the alarm box locks the doors.

The alarm on your 1997 SL Saturn has started going off randomly but cannot be set with the remote and the dome light is not functioning properly which started at same time as alarm problem?

I would suggest checking all of the switches on your doors, or the alignment of your doors. Also, make sure your trunk is closing properly. Check that switch too. Your dome light is staying on probably because one of the doors isn't closing properly, or the switch is bad in one of the doors/trunk lid. Good luck!

Car alarm will not stop car. Is there a kill switch for the alarm Car is a '87 Nissan maxsima. the alarm is a unic alarm system?

unplug the car battery this should reset the system. If it doesnt, i presume you do not have the remote for it? I assume the doors are locked also? put the key in the door turn it left, right, left. this should de-activate the system. If there is a kill switch, also known as a valet switch it should be under the dash on the drivers side near where the fuse panel is.

Have the same problem here too. Disabling the siren leads also disables the cars horn. Workaround, manually push lock down on passenger door when all passengers have exited the vehicle. Alarm is not active, but doors are locked.
