This is part of the security sytem of the Kia. Its connnected to the alarm system. If you wish to prevent this you can disconnect the automatic locks or just pull the fuse from the alarm box. Hence you will also disable the alarm. When the car is started it senses the electrical difference and assumes that you are in the car. Then the alarm box locks the doors.
I have a 2000 model kia sportage. Recently the automatic door locks, rear window wiper, and all of the electric windows just stopped working? Also at the same time the engine light came on, I had it check by an advanced auto computer check and they said it said heat sensor. Use the remote door lock to lock the doors, then unlock, then lock. The alarm should be reset. If not get in the vehicle, lock all the doors with them closed, unlock them, relock them walla alarm reset!

Take out one of the key barrels - from either doors or trunk lid and you should find it on the lock cylinder itself.
because there a horrable desing. that happend to my 2000 sportage. dont buy new hubs from kia go to worn.com and buy a pair of manuall locking hubs they will run you about 170 bucks. but well worth it.
2001 kia sportage will not lock into four wheel say it in four wheel drive but front wheels dont pull or lock in
