so basically, there's a gene/ genetic sequence in dog's brains near a gland that is like (or is) the pituitary gland. One or more mutations suppresses it, not producing as much of the hormone that makes you grow; preventing Labrador-sized Chihuahuas! (Rottweilers also have this, but other genetic factors likely make them large) Please read the article, it covers it better than I do.

∙ 12y agoThe teacup Chihuahua isn't really a breed. They are made up. They are really just normal chihuahuas which are not fed enough food to make them look smaller. It's the same with teacup pigs, as soon as they are give enough food they grow into huge pigs! Trust me, I would know, I got tricked into buying one then it grew into a pot-bellied pig... :(
However, the normal Chihuahua is the smallest breed.
