A little, every now and then, Like a lump in your morning coffee/tea, and one in the afternoon isn't gonna hurt. BUt eating it by the spoonful all day is a bad idea. It'll rot your teeth, and you'll have a hard time using up those calories.

The trouble is that these days there's sugar added to a lot of places where we don't suspect it. Ketchup has loads of sugar. White bread has sugar in it. So even if you're only eating a controlled and harmless amount of visible sugar, you may be getting a whole lot more by accident, more or less.
