Is it a good idea to ask a guy that you have known for awhile out on a date when he has absolutely no idea that you are even thinking of asking?

Sure. Every relationship has to start somewhere. Since you've known this guy for a while then that just gives you a lead way because you know something about him. maybe he feels the same way but is scared to ask you. of course, go for it. Absolutely nothing wrong with asking a guy you find attractive out, if fact most guys are flattered and will find your more confident. Many guys are just as nervous about asking people out as women are. Does he seem to seek you out to talk to you or enjoy it when you say hello to him? Be calm and friendly, even if (worst case scenario) he says no. Just say, "No problem," smile and walk away. You can't win them all, but you're more likely to get a yes than a no. Good luck!
