It would depend on the relevant legislation in your area.

Probably it wouldn't be acceptable to take your laptop and phone along to jury duty in order to work while attending court or deliberating, though there mightn't be a problem during breaks.

If your jury duty is completed for the day, there shouldn't be any reason to prevent you from returning to work. Again, it all depends on your local legislation.

Your wife was fired for doing jury duty is this legal?

It most likely was not legal. Jury duty is a compulsory duty imposed by law and it may not be interfered with by private individuals or companies. States have laws that require employers to permit their employees to fulfill jury duty requirements without retaliation. Employers cannot be forced to pay an employee for time missed from work, but they cannot take any adverse action against you for going. Same in the UK and all civilized countries, providing the employer is made aware of the duty. An individual or company with a strong case can ask for a deferral of duty.

When reporting for jury duty do you need to bring identification?

This is fully dependent on which court you're reporting to. The court I last reported to did not require any such thing, but it's very unlikely that you and I report to the same court. At minimum, bring a driver's license. For more information, call the information desk (or an equivalent) at your local court. It's very likely that there's a phone number on your jury duty paperwork that they sent you.

Can a convicted felon serve on a jury in the US?

Every state has its own laws regarding whether a felon can serve on jury duty. Of course, they cannot serve on jury duty if they are incarcerated, and in most states in serving probation or other supervision. However, in many states, felons may not serve on jury duty unless they have had their civil rights restored. The requirements are the same for civil cases as for criminal cases.

Can a felon serve on jury duty?

It depends on the state. In the state of California, after a person has completed parole and are OFF parole, they automatically get their voting rights back. They just have to register like everyone else. So needless to say, given the same circumstances, they can then be called to jury duty. There are 3 or 4 other states where the same rules apply. However, the person must have COMPLETED parole successfully. They can as long as you let them know when called upon. In some states yes, in some no. If you are a felon and get called for jury duty, then chances are they will dismiss you when you go but you still get paid.

Can a husband and wife be on the same jury?

If you receive a letter in the mail saying you have jury duty it is random pick and does not usually pick two people from the same family, but it is possible.Another View: As stated above, it is possible that both a husband and a wife might be chosen for the same jury pool, however it is HIGHLY unlikely that they would be chosen to sit on the same jury. Reason: during Voire Dire one or both attorneys would challenge offone or the other due to the likelihood of the jury verdict being appealed if the case did not go either ones way, citing lack of impartiality due to the undue influence of one juror upon the other.

What is the penalty for missing jury duty in NC?

Well my boyfriend is going through that now... he got subpoened to go to court and when he went the judge told him he would have to go to jury duty the following monday and stay there for 8 hours even if he was the only one in the courtroom and then he has to write a 2 page essay on the importance of jury duty and read it to the court and if he doesn't do that he will have to serve 30 days in the county jail... my advice go to your jury duty....... I told him the same thing and look at what he is going through now... The judge can enter a bench warrant to arrest the individual. Then they can impose fines or even jail time. The above is an excellent example of what can happen!
