Well, generally, yes. But it really depends on what the cause is that's making the light come on. It could pretty much be anything, and you should probably pull codes to see if that narrows it down any.
Check the gauges. One or more of the gauges must be out of normal range to trip the "check gauges" light.
In my 99 cavalier it means to look at gauges and check to make sure they are reading correctly. Mine goes on when I need fuel. Dummy light is what they are called.
First you need to test drive the boat. Also check the gauges and instruments and make sure that boat goes in reverse.
It depends on what is causing it. This light usually comes on when the car dies, the oil pressure goes to zero, the water temp goes into the red zone, or the volt gauge goes to high or low. One of your gauges should be inoperative or showing an incorrect reading, or you have a problem with the engine for this light to be coming on.
What car? low fuel level???
You have a failure in the communication system on the van. It will require a scan tool to diagnose.
The check gauges warning is an additional warning to the driver that something is not right. If you see this warning, be sure to survey all the indicators on your instrument panel...especially oil pressure and engine temperature. If you see anything you're not sure of, err on the side of safety and pull off the road, shut down the engine and seek help.
the check engine light goes on and off
Check your owners manual. It tells you what each of your fuses goes to depending on the vehicle.
If a dash light is flickering on and off, it could be that the light is loose. Check to make sure that the light for the speedometer and the dash are in the holders that keep them from dropping out of the dash.
I'm assuming that if you leave you vehical over night or longer it goes dead, not while driving? check for a stuck relay or a glove box or trunk light left on.
It could be a problem that is showing up intermittently. Most of those types of problems are stored in the computer, so you could probably borrow, rent or buy an OBD2 code scanner that would tell you what's going on. Check with your local auto parts retailer. They can often give you a little assistance on those types of issues, especially if you could go in during an off-peak time. Good luck. The number one reason the "Check Guages" light comes on is for you to check the guages. It is almost always because your temperature guage is reading really high and when you start off,the temp goes down and the light goes out. Another is the oil pressure guage. If it goes low while ideling such as at a stop light, the "Check Guages" light comes on and goes out when you start off again and the oil pressure goes up.
