No, it is not hard to change a starter on a 2001 VW Passat. However, one should use caution when working on any component of a cars electrical system and also have all necessary tools and parts on hand to make the repair easier.
nope, the starter should be right at the bottom of the transmission on the driverside.
underneath the intake manifold not hard just takes time
the starter it's self is about $100 it's not to hard to replace just under the breather at the front of the engine
not hard, hard . three bolts, screw, and anut on starter. make sure truck is sucure before getting under it i would hate to hear about someone dying
It could be the battery. If not try tapping the starter with a hammer. Not hard enough to crack the housing but hard enough that it might unstick the starter from the flywheel. If this works you might want to change the starter. If not it would have to be the solenoid.
hello i have a 2000 grand am and the starter died ,and would like to change the starter my self to sins i dont have lots of money . can u please help me in locating it and tell me if it was hard to change or not , thank you aiman
On a 98 venture the starter is located in front and just under radiator. Simple to reach and change. I learned the hard way.
hard to get at. It is under the intake manifold, facing the eng, to the left near the firewall
Not that hard, it's located on the back side of the motor. Make sure it's the starter. You can test it with a remote starter. My car has the problem with the ignition, because it started when I hooked up the remote.
the starter motor is behind the intake manifold. after you take the main intake shield, there is another shield that covers the starter motor. remove the starter shield and you can find the motor. its a little hard that other cars i used to have but it can be worked on. just need a little more patience.
Best to have it done on a hoist. It is very very hard to reach the 3rd bolt. Believe me. 4.6L engine.
Hi - Having same problem. Did you find out how? I have the bolts out, but starter won't come. Does the clutch assembly have to come out first? I have LS2000 jet boat that has the same motors as the XL 1200. I also tried to remove the starter (3 times) before getting it off. The starter clutch assembly does not have to come off, the starter will slide out of the hole in the crankcase it is set in but it is hard to do. There is an o-ring on the shank of the starter that goes in to the hole in the crankcase, this why it is so hard to remove. You have to use a chisel or a large screwdriver and hit the front of the starter drive out. Putting it back in is almost as hard.
