Is it illegal for car repair people to lie. Seem like every time i Google a repair procedure there is talk about how the service people lie...How do i Guard myself against this?

Please be very clear on the point that impending the process of justice or the force of law in any manner is definitely illegal. Statements made before the court or statements affirmed through affidavits become matters of record. Rendering anything on record which one knows to be false can even lead to imprisonment.

It is very common for Car Repair/Workshop people to fabricate stories and lie. This is mainly done with the intention of avoiding liability with respect to faulty manufacturing or defects in cars. Based on on-job experience on the matter I would suggest the following-

1. Please read the warranty policy carefully.
2. Operate vehicle as per the recommendations of manufacturers.
3. Inspite of this if you observe any major problem with the vehicle, make it a point to register your complaint in "writing" and secure a copy of the same.
4. The workshops usually do a follow up to know customer satisfaction. Make sure you register in negetive in this and also make an endorsement as to why you are not satisfied.
5. Maintain a record of all these documents for future.
6. In case any dispute arises you can get an expert view by independent evaluation.
7. If you have followed the above steps you are at a very strong position.
8. In case the expert opinion is against the workshop you are in a position to dictate terms and can explain the workshop people of the legal consequences.
9. By this stage your problem should be solved. In case not, do not hesitate to undertake preliminary legal initiatives.
10. Last step would be of course approaching a Consumer Court.

However, a better and Practical approach to the matter would be to have good relations with the workshop people.
