laws differ in different places call you local building code office. gas appliances can be dangerous if not installed properly or if the unit is faulty(even brand new units may be faulty) Your life and the lives of you family are far more valuble that the cost of a gas fitter. the gas fitter will run tests, such as pressure test, on his installation and the unit. only a gas fitter will know ALL the codes. even if it is legal to do without a gas fitter , it is still stupid.
