yes it is a divet from the ball resting
If you're missing one of the balls, put the ring in so that the only ball is under your tongue. This will keep it from being pushed out.
Remove the ball and pull it out. If it's a closed in ball, take some needlenose pliers, put the end of the pliers in the ring and gently pull the pliers open inside the ring until the ball pops out. Be sure to do this somewhere where the ball doesn't bounce off under something. Edit: If its a ball closure ring, use needlenose pliers. I didnt have needlenose pliers so my dad did it with scissors for me, wasnt a brillaint idea but it did work (:
There are many different types of jewellry than can be put into a lip piercing, such as a labret(stud) bcr (ball closure ring) a segment closure ring, horseshoe rings, and more. normally a fresh piercing is done with a titanium labret.
The best way to see what a piercing will look like without getting it done (or to get a photo of you or someone so it looks like a piercing) is to buy a couple of threaded balls and/or a ball closure ring (aka captive bead ring) - go to a piercing studio and ask them, the jewellery shouldn't be too expensive. Then use some fake eyelash glue to glue the balls to your face (hmmm… that didn't sound quite right!) in the place you'd want the piercing(s) or take the ball/bead out of the ring and hook the ring onto your nose/lip/wherever then take a photo. I'm a complete n00b at photoshop, so I wouldn't have a clue where to start with photoshopping!! www.myspace.com/skinseamstress

No, its not. Go see your piercer.
This usually refers to a tongue piercing object - small, silver ball shaped.
Go to your piercer.

Well it should look like a tongue with a barbell running through it, the distention (mild swelling) around the piercing is normal and no cause for concern
Well your piercer should have explained this to you at the time you got your piercing done. Average healing time is 6 to 8 weeks for a light heal, no piercing is "healed" until it's a year old and seasoned. Now for the tenderness under the tongue, there could be a chance you have a metal burr on the ball under your tongue, best to go see your piercer and have them take it out and look, they can change the ball and you are off to the races.
If you just recently got it pierced, then it makes sense for it to bleed a little and feel sore. If the piercing is old, it might be irritated. Rinse with salt water to cleanse the area.
IS the jewelry really tight? Its not uncommon for the bottom ball to "nestle" and cause a dent on the underside of your tongue but not usually on the top. I sugggest that you go ask your piercer since they can actually look at whats going on :)
Betweeen 4 and 6 mm. The most common is probably 5 mm.
The best and safest thing to do is to go and get another thread on ball or replacement barbell from any professional body piercing studio, you don't want to screw around with your tongue piercing. Get a replacement ball on as soon as possible.
Well actually that's not a good thing, the barbell was too short for the piercing to allow for swelling, the expansion of the piercing hole is and indication of some sensitivity to the metal or the aftercare product you are using. Consider seeing your piercer tomorrow to have them take a look.
honestly yes, in a sense, you cant really have a normal dermal plate because theyre too long, but what I did was I used a labret piercing with rounded back plate in place of my tongue bar, making sure it was a snug fit and the labret plate actually worked its way into my tongue and I just left if for the bottom to heal.. its been 6 months and its perfectly healthy.. since then I have had ball bearings put in my tongue
