Yes, it is absolutely possible. You can become the supervisor of a topic that already exists, or you can suggest one that we don't have yet. If you have the knowledge, patience, kindness, and time to help us out, then that is what it takes. There is a topic page that lists where supervisors are needed here http://wiki.answers.com/Q/FAQ, and there is a page that explains how to become a supervisor here http://wiki.answers.com/Q/WikiFAQs:Become_a_Supervisor. If you have any other questions about it, leave a message on any supervisor's page (including mine) to ask more.
Either is good. If you are very knowlegable in certain caegories, then you may consider being a category supervisor. If you knowledge falls into a bunch of categories or you don't want to be tied down to watching certain categories, you may want to become a floating supervisor. Note that category supervisors are not restricted to just their own categories - they can still work in whatever category interests them.
Yes, if you are a supervisor.

These highly experienced supervisors are also given the responsibility of training the new supervisors in the art of being a good supervisor. If you would like to become a mentor, get in touch with Ganderton (Gregg). Yes. It is commonplace to back stab each other in the workplace when it comes to advancement in your own employment/career. Why wouldn't you apply for your supervisor's position? Are you in love with your supervisor? Or do you just think you are not qualified enough to handle your supervisor's responsibilities?
Speaking from my experience - I didn't actually ask - I was contacted by another supervisor - who asked me if I wanted to become part pf the supervisors team. My passion is reptiles - when I first found this site, I started answering questions on snakes, lizards etc - that 'got me noticed' for the quality of my contributions. If you're interested in supervising a specific category - click the 'become a supervisor' link at the right of the page, above the current supervisor's name.Answers staff will go back through your contributions to check their quality etc. You must also have had no recent official warnings. I see this question came from a web-site (rather than an individual user) - you must be a registered user in your own right.
