It is used to ban people if they are vandalising the site, it is the same as you posting something or sending an email normally because it's just that easy to get your IP address and anyone who would use it for a bad reason which they would need your username and password for would need to know how to get your IP the hard way.
WikiAnswers Supervisors and Community Assistants can see all contributions by an IP address.
By your username and IP address.
From a command prompt, you can use the command "ipconfig" to display your ip address.
Information about you (e.g. your IP address) will be logged by WikiAnswers. If you ask or question (or do any activity that involves changing anything on WikiAnswers) your IP will be publicly visible on the question history.
Their username, or IP address, will be listed in the history of the question.
ID Names are users that have contributed anonymously, by using their IP Address. Supervisors do not see IDs, but see the IP Address of the contributor.
IP stands for Internet Protocol. Basically it is a numerical address that allows you access to internet or local area connections (For example 127.0.0.1 is an ip address). Go to www.whatismyip.com. This will display your current IP address, as assigned by your service provider.
There is no way to contribute to WikiAnswers entirely anonymously; when you contribute without an account, Supervisors and Community Assistants can view your IP Address for vandalism purposes. However, Non-Supervisors will not see the IP Address, but an ID Number instead.
You default gateway's IP address.
Because each IP defines certain subnet mask.
Yes, answers by people who are not logged in are represented by the IP address they used at the time of the answer (this helps track vandals at the site)
Even before the layout was changed for WikiAnswers, same person could not rate one contributor twice from same IP address, as IP address is marked for one recommendation.
