Like anyone who has been "dumped," his confidence and interest in starting up a relationship may be shaken. I am sure he will care again, just not be open to a deeper relationship right away. Like all of us, it takes awhile to recover from parting with someone you were serious about. As for standards, each of us knows about what will make us happy in a partnership, and I am sure, once he finds his bearings, he will search for that sort of relationship again.
