The U.S. Food & Drug Administration has issued Import Alerts to keep Kratom from entering the country. Various states have either banned or have substantially regulated the substance including Indiana, Tennessee, Illinois, Wisconsin, Alabama and Louisiana. The number of states joining that list is growing.
It is also banned or highly regulated in many countries including (but not limited to) Malaysia, Myanmar, Australia, Denmark, Finland, Thailand, Lithuania, New Zealand, Norway and Sweden. That number continues to grow, too.

∙ 7y agoIt is not legal in its own country of origin, Thailand. It has not yet been banned in many other countries, like the United States. However, the United States Department of Justice warns heavily against it. So do groups such as Narconon.

Kratom is heavily promoted as a legal, undetectable, safe drug that can be used to come off stronger drugs. It is not yet illegal in the US but the breakdown products of kratom can be detected with some drug tests. If you want a test for that you would need to ask for it.
