Yes. The sun won't be around forever, but it will likely be around long after the human race is gone. The light from the sun (all wavelengths, spanning from ultraviolet to infrared) is actually energy and can be measured in watts. It's renewable because the energy is always there whether we decide to convert some of it to electricity or not.
The more efficient solar power plants heat up water to turn generators. These plants thus use up some fresh water, which is becoming less available in many populated regions. Still, it's a lot less wasteful than coal!
