The issue has been settled in Federal Court. A number of years ago, a number of patients went to court against the Federal Government. The court ruled that

1) marijuana is a medicine and

2) it was the only medicine suitable for their needs.

As a result, the US Government currently sends a big tin can full of 300 marijuana joints to seven patients each month. There are only seven in the program because the Federal Government shut down the program to new admissions. All of the patients in the program report that the US Government marijuana is very poor quality.

As a result of this action, the DEA's own Chief Administrative Law Judge, Francis Young, studied the issue for two years, heard arguments from both sides, and accumulated fifteen volumes of research. In his ruling, he said that marijuana meets the legal standards of a medicine, and that marijuana, in its natural form, is among the safest therapeutic substances known to man.

As a result of the ongoing controversy, the Drug Czar of the US commissioned a report by the Institute of Medicine. The report stated that there marijuana is a medicine and that are, at this time, some legitimate medical uses for which there is currently no good pharmaceutical alternative. They concluded that marijuana is a medicine, and patients should be allowed to use it.

In addition, Canada has officially accepted marijuana as a medicine and has established a government program to grow and distribute marijuana to patients. Patients in the program report that government marijuana is poor quality.

Yes it is, that is why the government made it legal for medical use all around the united states. It has many many uses and often medical marijuana patients will tell you that no other medicine works as well as pot does.

The uses of marijuana just off the top of my head are:

chemotherapy patients use them for their stomachs because the chemo medicine gives them horrible stomach pain and restricts them from taking any other medicine because their immune system is to weak and they can easily O.D. (it is impossible to O.D. on marijuana)

sleeping problems

eating problems

stress problems

treats AIDS side affects

Glaucoma patients use it tgo help reduce pressure in their eyes.

Depression

Like I said, Pretty much takes away any stomach pain you have and actually people who drink alcohol and smoke weed while they're drinking often causes them to have an overdose on alcohol because they drink too much and do not puke the alcohol out. (this applies for idiots who don't know when to stop drinking)
