Best Answer

Yes, Meranti is a hard wood which hails from the Philippines and other eastern tropical type areas. It has similar characteristics and appearance to Mahogany but is much cheaper and more readily available. It works and finishes nicely and is a good choice for all manner of joinery, cabinet making and a myriad of other uses.

Which is better for windows meranti or oak woods?

Personally, I would prefer meranti to provide sufficient shade by a window. The reasoning is that oaks can provide shade; however, they can get scruffy and have some branches here and less there to where you could never tell where they are going to grow. The meranti grows to where it provides shade all in the circumference zone.
